CKOA 89.7 FM, Glace Bay, NS: “Future Broadcasters of Cape Breton” $8,379
This project is an effort to foster interest among youth considering a career in broadcasting. We will give high school students an opportunity to experience training and mentoring at an actual radio station. Many times high school students are left out of the training/work experience programs such as the summer student program due to university students being available. We would like to offer high school students a chance to have this experience and learn more about communicating and connecting with the community. Furthermore, we would like to see the students produce a youth oriented community radio program by the end of their term and if possible to continue on as volunteers and create a weekly radio program focusing on area high schools and their various activities, sports and related matters.
